What impact did WWII have on digital computing? How did the transistor and microprocessor result in our powerful handheld devices?
Presenter Eugene Flynn will share the history of how our powerful handheld devices can be traced back to the impact of the transistor, the creation of the microprocessor by Intel in 1971 and the introduction of the IBM PC. Included will also be a look at the people behind these innovations and how current popular films such as "Hidden Figures" have portrayed the role of women in the development of computers. Flynn is a presenter at the Lifelong Learning Institute of Harper College and other local educational institutions. You'll be sure to leave with a new appreciation of the technology involved that resulted in your "pocket computer".
